Gait and balance training

Gait and balance training

A normal gait pattern maintains range of motion in the hips, knees, ankles and spine as well as optimizing balance and safety for the older patient. A Home Physical Therapy Gait Assessment often will reveal asymmetries in step length, knee function and lower extremity weight bearing. The use of dynamic stepping exercises, cones, proprioception boards and using 3 planes of movement all help provide a challenge to the balance systems. Balance and Strength training exercises, postural corrections, weight shifting exercises and proper instruction with assistive devices can help normalize the gait pattern.

Whether you are 50 years old or 70 years old, acute, chronic or post-traumatic pain can limit your activities for daily living. Physical Therapy is the tool for making your body and whole health improve and get back on track!
